\"Janis<\/p>\n

Hi Mantahari Community<\/strong>! My name is Janis Argeswara, a project leader at the Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) Southeast Asia, and welcome to the new section of Mantahari\u2019s blog, Indo-Update<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

As some of you know, a percentage of Mantahari\u2019s sales support MMF to conduct research on manta rays and plastics, and increase capacity building to early-career marine researchers in Indonesia. I am happy to say that, thanks to Mantahari, I am the first Indonesian research staff at MMF! How exciting is that?<\/strong> In return, I want to update the Mantahari community who have contributed a lot to our research about the things going on here in tropical Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\"Conservation<\/p>\n

Besides focusing on plastic pollution, specifically microplastics,<\/strong> my team leader and I have recently focused more on\u00a0manta\u00a0reproduction ecology and marine turtle demographics and dynamics. To help us with the project, we have also recruited two Indonesian interns<\/strong>, Maul and Aul, who are currently having the time of their lives living in the beautiful Lembongan island we call home. Although tourism has been fairly quiet on the island, we are making the best of our time looking through back-log data, swimming and breath-hold training, processing and analysing collected data, and of course, enjoying the famous Lembongan sunsets every other day.<\/p>\n
