MOZ Update 2 \u2013 Megafauna in Tofo<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Es gibt ein Update aus Afrika! Seit der ersten Afrika Log Ausgabe ist schon \u00fcber eine Woche vergangen, die ich genutzt habe, um ein paar der Ozean Riesen hier in Mosambik kennen zu lernen. Welche Eindr\u00fccke ich gesammelt habe, was das Tauchen hier besonders und auch anspruchsvoll macht und wie die n\u00e4chsten Tage und Wochen bei mir aussehen, erfahrt ihr in dieser Episode.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Unterkunft und Dive Center Liquid Dive direkt am Strand<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

So viele Eindr\u00fccke!<\/strong> Meine erste Woche unter Wasser in Mosambik hat nicht entt\u00e4uscht\u2026 ich habe mit der Tauchbasis Liquid Dive<\/strong><\/a> ein Zuhause in Tofo gefunden, sie sind aktuell nicht ausgebucht und ich darf f\u00fcr einen wirklich fairen Preis in dem einfachen aber supersch\u00f6nen Bungalow mit Meerblick wohnen und auf die Tauchg\u00e4nge umsonst mitkommen, die nicht ausgebucht sind. Das waren 6 Dives in der Woche, ein paar waren voll, ein paar mussten wegen zu starkem Seegang abgesagt werden. Im Gegenzug mache ich Fotos und Videos f\u00fcr den Shop und mach mich sonst n\u00fctzlich, wo es geht.<\/p>\n

Vielleicht f\u00fcr die Taucher:innen in der Community interessant: Es ist auf jeden Fall anders hier<\/strong>, als an Orten wie \u00c4gypten, Indonesien oder den Malediven! Die Schlauchboote werden jeden Tag mit dem Traktor an den Strand gezogen, alle G\u00e4ste packen mit an, um das Boot die ersten Meter durch die Brandung zu schieben. Sobald der Motor im Wasser ist, h\u00fcpfen alle an Board und es geht \u2013 F\u00fc\u00dfe in Schlaufen, H\u00e4nde an Griffen \u2013 durch die manchmal gar nicht so kleine Brandung nach drau\u00dfen. Der Seegang ist nicht ohne, ich brauche wie immer ein paar Tage, um mich daran zu gew\u00f6hnen, aber es wird immer besser.<\/p>\n

Unter Wasser ist es auf jeden Fall anspruchsvoll<\/strong>. Negative Entry, man trifft sich praktisch unten, die Sicht ist mal besser, mal schlechter und das Riff weit weniger farbenfroh als im roten Meer oder in Indonesien. ABER: Die Megafauna. Sowas von on fire!<\/strong> Wir hatten Mantas und Walhaie, jeweils absolut atemberaubende Begegnungen. Die Mantas sind 15 Minuten, also die gesamte Bottom Time der recht tiefen Tauchg\u00e4nge neben mir geblieben, haben sich von den Putzerfischen s\u00e4ubern lassen und die Taucher neugierig be\u00e4ugt. Auf einer kleinen Tour etwas weiter s\u00fcdlich hat sich ein Walhai blicken lassen, zu dem wir mit Schnorchel Ausr\u00fcstung vorsichtig ins Wasser gehen durften.<\/p>\n

Tofo geh\u00f6rt zu den besten Regionen weltweit, um Walhaie zu sehen<\/strong>, da in der Bucht \u201eTofinho Point\u201c konstant so viel Plankton ist, dass sie dort fressen und in aller Ruhe knapp unter der Oberfl\u00e4che ihre Bahnen ziehen. Allgemein ist die Meerenge zwischen Mosambik und Madagaskar extrem reich an N\u00e4hrstoffen<\/strong>, was mehrere Gr\u00fcnde hat. Die recht nah an der K\u00fcste verlaufende Kontinentalplatte und die Str\u00f6mungen in der Meeresstra\u00dfe bringen viele N\u00e4hrstoffe relativ konstant an die K\u00fcste, das mal vorab, ohne zu tief in den Nerd Talk einzusteigen. Die Mantas hier sind trotzdem leider stark auf dem R\u00fcckgang, die Gr\u00fcnde hierf\u00fcr sind nicht ganz klar und m\u00fcssen erforscht werden, was direkt zur MMF \u00fcberleitet.<\/p>\n

Die Organisation, die ich in Indonesien kennen gelernt habe und die wir alle seit Gr\u00fcndung des Projekts unterst\u00fctzen hat ihr Headquarter hier. Die zust\u00e4ndigen Forscher:innen waren bisher alle noch unterwegs wegen einer gro\u00dfen Konferenz in S\u00fcdafrika, kommen aber in den kommenden Tagen zur\u00fcck. Ich habe trotzdem das HQ schon besucht, ein paar Angestellte kennengelernt und dem Schwimmunterricht zuschauen k\u00f6nnen. Hier wird Locals die M\u00f6glichkeit gegeben Schwimmen zu lernen im Pool, da es trotz der K\u00fcstenn\u00e4he eine absolute Ausnahme ist, dass die Menschen hier schwimmen k\u00f6nnen. Sogar die Fischer auf den Nussschalen im hohen Wellengang k\u00f6nnen oft nur sehr schlecht oder gar nicht schwimmen!<\/p>\n

Neben Schulungsprojekten und den Schwimmkursen ist die MMF hier nat\u00fcrlich auch mit Forschung besch\u00e4ftigt.<\/strong> ID Shots der Lebewesen, f\u00fcttern der Datenbanken, Messung und Monitoring der Megafauna vor Ort. In all das werde ich in den n\u00e4chsten Tagen und Wochen noch Insights bekommen.<\/p>\n

F\u00fcr mich geht es jetzt aber erstmal ca. zwei Fahrstunden \u00fcber kleine Sand-Feldwege in den S\u00fcden, nach Zavora<\/strong>. Das ist tats\u00e4chlich mitten im Nirgendwo! Tofo ist ein kleines Expat St\u00e4dtchen mit vielen Optionen f\u00fcr Essen und Getr\u00e4nke und einem kleinen Supermarkt (nicht so touristisch, wie man meinen w\u00fcrde, aber doch recht komfortabel), hier in Zavora ist\u2026. Nichts. Und das ist \u00fcberragend. Ich habe ein paar Tage, um bei Nakia zu hospitieren, die hier komplett abgelegen einen Standort der MMF betreibt, in dem Forschung betrieben wird und regelm\u00e4\u00dfig Praktikant:innen aus aller Welt die M\u00f6glichkeit haben diese absolut einzigartige Umgebung kennen zu lernen.<\/p>\n

Ich freue mich sehr auf die Einblicke und das Tauchen dort, wo man als Tourist nicht hinkommt und werde den n\u00e4chsten Afrika Log sicherlich ausschlie\u00dflich \u00fcber die Arbeit von Nakia, ihre Praktika Organisation MAR<\/strong><\/a> und das Leben \u201ein der Wildnis\u201c schreiben.<\/p>\n
